We're excited to welcome CJ Motte to the ice for our August 9 event in Ames! CJ brings a wealth of elite hockey experience — from his time in the AAA ranks with Honeybaked, through junior hockey in the NAHL and USHL, to becoming the winningest goaltender in Ferris State University history. While at Ferris State, he was a Hobey Baker Award finalist, helped lead his team to the 2012 NCAA Frozen Four, and earned multiple individual accolades along the way.
After college, CJ continued his journey at the professional level, playing in both the AHL (including with the Iowa Wild) and the ECHL, before taking his game overseas to compete internationally. Hockey runs in the family — his younger brother, Tyler Motte, has played in the NHL for teams like the Vancouver Canucks and Detroit Red Wings. With such a deep background in high-level play, CJ knows what it takes to compete — and succeed — at every stage of development.
Now, CJ is sharing his expertise as a coach, having recently led the Oakmoor Academy Patriots (Prep) 18U AAA team right here in Iowa. His focus on development, discipline, and skill refinement makes him a perfect fit for our Wild Wings players. Whether you're skating in our private team session or joining the public skills event, this is a rare opportunity to learn from someone who has not only played the game at its highest levels — but now dedicates his time to helping the next generation rise.
